Colby Covington took a shot at Tyron Woodley today, saying that he knew that the former champion was in decline. Covington stated that he knew Woodley was going to lose against Gilbert Burns.
“I knew that Woodley was washed up. I knew that he was just showing up for a pay check.”
Colby saw Woodley against Usman last year, and he concluded after watching his performance that the Chosen One is no longer on the level he used to be.

“You saw that in his last fight with ‘Marty Fakenewsman,’ that there’s no fight left in him. He’s literally just showing up to get pay checks. He was cashed out years ago. I mean, when’s the last time the guy won a round?”
Covington (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) is one of the biggest trash talkers in the UFC, and this is something usual from his side. He has some verbal exchanges with Woodley (19-5-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC) during the COVID-19 pandemics, and the two were even a possible matchup at the UFC 249, as a replacement for Khabib vs. Ferguson bout. It one of the options according to the media from the MMA community, but in the end, different plans prevailed.
For the former challenger, that is ancient history, and he isn’t interested in fighting the former champion now. Covington explained that he tried to book that contest but that his rival didn’t want to accept the challenge.
“It sucks. I built that fight for three, four years. I was begging to fight that guy on five days’ notice because I know how washed up he is, and he never wanted to fight me.”
Woodley lost via unanimous decision against Gilbert Burns recently, and after that match, it was clear that he isn’t among the top fighters in the welterweight division. His age (38), and numerous injuries have left a trace, and his body isn’t superior as it used to be.

Burns was dominating throughout the entire fight and was hurting Woodley constantly. Eventually, it was a no brainer for the judges in how to score. After this fight, the Brazilian became one of the possible challengers for Usman, which is something Colby wants also.
UFC welterweight division is one of the most interesting in the organization, and the competition there is the toughest possible. We have several players who are in combination to meet Usman, and each one of them is an excellent fighter.
At the moment, Jorge Masvidal is the No.1 contender according to the rankings, but he isn’t interested in meeting the champion, per some sources. The Gamebred has set his sights on another clash with Nate Diaz. Masvidal won the first fight and captured the unofficial BMF belt, and it seems that there is a massive interest in the second fight.
Leon Edwards is waiting for his turn to get a chance to even the scores with Usman. The British fighter lost against the Nigerian Nightmare several years ago, but since then posted eight straight wins, and established himself as one of the best in the division.
Usman himself wants to meet Conor McGregor and he would even offer a title fight to the Irishman, but didn’t get the response. He and his agent Ali Abdelaziz called out McGregor recently, firing several nasty attributes, but surprisingly there wasn’t any answer.
