Kansas City Chiefs routinely trashed the Chicago Bears and clinched their spot in the NFL playoffs. The final result of the game played at the Soldier Field this Sunday night was 26-3 for the guests.
In a clash between the two best-positioned quarterbacks from the 2017 NFL draft, the reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes once again proved his superiority over Mitch Trubisky.
As time goes by, it is more than obvious that the Bears made a huge mistake for choosing Trubisky, who is slowly cruising towards mediocrity. He was 18 for 34, collecting 157 yards without a TD or an interception, but with a fumble.
On the other side, was Patrick Mahomes, who was unstoppable tonight. The NFL’s MVP threw two TD passes, had one rushing score, and was 23 for 33 for 251 yards. He led his Chiefs to their fifth straight win, and it appears that Andy Reid’s guys are starting to reach their best form in the perfect time.
“I ended up in a great situation in Kansas City. A situation where I wanted to be at (with) an organization that’s taken me and made me the best player I could be at this time,” Mahomes said following the event.
The hosts didn’t stand any chances against the fired-up guests who scored on all of their first three possessions. The result at the halftime was 17-0 for the Chiefs, and already then some of the Bears fans decided the hit the exits and avoid another round of torturing.
Mahomes scored the first TD of the game after a 12-yard run, with some minute and a half until the end of the opening period. The next score was also in the late part of the period, only the second one. With 52 seconds to go, Mahomes found Travis Kelce for a 6-yard pass and a TD. In between, Harrison Butker made a 56-yard field goal. It was the fourth-longest in KC’s history.
Mahomes’ other TD pass came with 10:05 left in the fourth when he hit Damien Williams for a 14-yard completion.
Meanwhile, the Bears were looking bad. There wasn’t anything positive in tonight’s performance, which could be mentioned. Matt Nagy was realistic after the match, admitting that his team didn’t deserve to win and that they need to do better.
“I think it just comes to down all of us with the details and just understanding that on each and every play, we all need to be extremely detailed,” Nagy said. “We all need to understand where we’re at and how important it is.”
They are ahead of one pretty interesting offseason during which they have to decide whether to stick with Trubisky or to find him a replacement. Cam Newton was one of the names mentioned during this campaign. Some stories suggested that there were even some contacts between the Bears and the Panthers about a possible trade.
Chicago has one of the best defenses in the league, but the imbalance between their performances and the offense is just too big.
Up next, the Bears (7-8) close this disappointing season against the Minnesota Vikings on December 29.
As for the Chiefs (11-4), they are hosting the LA Chargers on the same day and will be hoping for New England’s loss at home to the Miami Dolphins. Now that is pretty unrealistic, but if by any chance Patriots lose, that will push Kansas City to second place in the AFC.
