It seems that Coronavirus didn’t hit only Arsenal, but Chelsea as well, as their winger Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for this unpleasant virus.
After receiving the news that Arsenal’s head coach Mikel Arteta’s test results on COVID-19 came back positive, another major sensation struck the British island. Chelsea’s winger and one of the best players in the club, Callum Hudson-Odoi has been tested positive for the virus, which now changes everything not only for the Blues, but potentially for the entire league.
“Chelsea men’s team player Callum Hudson-Odoi had a positive test result for Coronavirus returned this evening,” wrote in club’s statement issues early this Friday, British time. “Chelsea personnel who had recent close contact with the player in the men’s team building will now self-isolate in line with Government health guidelines.”

Last night, once the test results came back positive, Chelsea’s team, along with the manager Frank Lampard proceeded with self-isolation. Also, one part of the training facilities, which includes men’s team building, is to be closed.
Regarding Hudson-Odoi, his symptoms were noticed last Monday, but he was quickly moved off the field and hadn’t been training since. According to the club, for the moment, the 19-year old looks good, and his current situation is ok.
Now, it seems that the Blues’ game against Aston Villa in Birmingham might be postponed because of this, and the entire Premier League round is in danger. EPL indicated yesterday that the contests are about to proceed as planned with fans involved, but ever since, the situation has changed radically.
First, it was Mikel Arteta who tested positive for COVID-19 and now Hudson-Odoi.
The Premiership board will hold a meeting early this Friday and see what their options in the current situation are, and whether to go on as planned when it comes to this weekend’s fixture. For the moment, the game between Brighton and Arsenal is postponed. On the other side, it is expected to be the same with Aston Villa vs. Chelsea.

This game was pretty important for both sides. The Villains are in a fierce relegation battle and have a game in hand compared to other rivals. Chelsea, meanwhile, needs to continue collecting points in order to finish among the top five teams and earn a ticket for the Champions League next season. The Blues are also involved in the UCL activities now as they face Bayern Munich in the round of 16 stage.
Their chances of advancing to the next round are slim, as they lost the first leg with 0-3 at Stamford. When mentioning the Champions League, next week’s matches between Manchester City and Real Madrid, and Juventus and Lyon are canceled due to Coronavirus. Juventus’ player Daniele Rugani was tested positive for this virus and that also caused for immediate action of the Old Lady.
This round of EPL matches should see two big derbies. The first one is between Tottenham and Manchester United in London. It is the last chance for the Spurs to stay in the UCL race. On Monday night, Everton awaits wounded Liverpool at Goodison Park. The Reds enter this Merseyside Derby after suffering an elimination against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
We will make a preview of both matches if they are to be confirmed after today’s meeting.
