Chelsea made a stunning comeback in the last seven minutes of the London Derby against Arsenal to win this contest, 1-2. It was a nightmare finish for the Gunners and their new manager Mikael Arteta who debuted in front of the home crowd with a loss.
The guy to blame for the Gunners’ loss in their goalkeeper Bernd Leno, whose massive mistake in the 83rd minute ignited Chelsea’s comeback. After one set piece from the left side, Leno misjudged the trajectory of the ball, and missed it, allowing Jorginho on the far post to have an easy job while executing.
It was the moment when Blues’ sensed blood and went after all three points, even though they had one point in the pocket at Emirates.
😳 OH NO LENO!
Nightmare for the @Arsenal keeper – he completely misses the punch allowing Jorginho an easy goal!

And just four minutes later, Tammy Abraham silenced more than 75,000 Arsenal’s fans at the stadium. The only ones that made some noise were the part of the stands with Chelsea’s fans, and Frank Lampard, who was screaming near the sidelines.
The guests made one super-fast counter-attack with Willian entering the box and sending a low cross to Abramah, who was on the edge of the goalkeeper are. He would then routinely roll over to face the goal and dispatch the ball between Leno’s legs for 1-2.
We need to say that Chelsea deserved the win, as they dominated in the second half, after a pale performance over the opening 45 minutes.
Arsenal would reach the lead in the 13th minute through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whose header went past Kepa and hit the back of the net. In general, the hosts were much better after the start, and they had the initiative on the field. They’ve made Chelsea slow and without solutions in the midfield, and Frank Lampard had to react.
The young manager made the decision that would completely change the course of this event when replacing Emerson with Jorginho in the 34th minute.
Since that moment, the guests became more aggressive and dangerous and slowly started to grind their way back out of this position. The Brazilian-born would escape a red card after one situation when the referee Craig Pawson decided not to show him a yellow card following one very harsh tackle. That would be his second of the match.
“In the first 30 minutes they dominated the ball, they were popping us in midfield and then this man comes on, and it’s a whole different ball game. Him coming on lifted us as a team,” said Tammy Abraham.

This was Arsenal’s fourth straight match at home in which they lost, and that is something even the oldest fans of the Gunners can’t remember happening in the past. They are currently 12th in the standings with 24 points in 20 games, and it is almost certain that Arsenal can’t reach the Champions League through EPL this season.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is fourth, four points ahead of Man United, and five more than Tottenham. Lampard’s boys have been beating the stronger teams on the road while losing matches against the lower-placed sides at home, which prevented them from staying closer to Man City and Leicester.
Up next, the Blues meet Brighton on the road, while Arsenal awaits Manchester United at home. Both games are played on January 1.
