Chelsea is pretty active on the market these days, even though the entire soccer world stopped after Coronavirus break out. It appears that the Blues are negotiating with Barcelona about Philippe Coutinho, per several sources.
But not only that, two players who are currently at Stamford are considering leaving. Willian and Olivier Giroud are among the most desirable players on the market, and there are all sorts of stories that include their names in them.
But to start with Coutinho first.
The Brazilian forward is contracted to Barcelona, and is currently on loan in Munich, playing for Bayern. He adjusted pretty well, becoming not only regular among the starting eleven but also imposed himself as the playmaker on the pitch. Coutinho’s productivity in Bundesliga is pretty good – 22 matches, nine goals and eight assists, but what is more important is the fact that he presents the leader upfront and the person who organizes the attacking part of the operations.
Chelsea is eager to get their hands on this guy, because they are about to lose Willian. Without him, this team wouldn’t have an experienced playmaker, able not just to create a position for others to score, but to execute himself. Bayern Munich has a buyout clause set at €120 million, but it is almost certain that the Bavarians won’t use it. Meanwhile, the sources are suggesting that Barcelona might accept €80 million for the former Liverpool player who cost them twice as much once arriving form Anfield back in January 2018.
This is when Chelsea jumps in. Bayern is not the club who spends that much money on signings, and on the other side, Coutinho isn’t keen on coming back to Barcelona. The Blues know that the 27-year old wouldn’t have to lose time on adapting to English football, and that he fancies coming back to the Premiership.
On the other side, Willian’s contract expires this summer, and the other Brazilian not only has numerous offers from other clubs, but he also didn’t find a mutual language with his current crew.
“I think it will be very difficult for me to renew because Chelsea offered me two years, I asked for three, and it ended there, we didn’t talk anymore, we didn’t negotiate anymore.”

One of the clubs who is interested the most about him is none other than Barcelona. Over the past two years, the Spanish powerhouse showed their affection to Willian on numerous occasions, and they even had contacts with Chelsea’s management over his transfer.
Since the Brazilian won’t have a contract behind him and his future club won’t need to pay any compensation, he will be one of the hottest goods on the market.
As for Giroud, he was searching a way out from Stamford for quite some time, and that was primarily because of his current status. The French international is now behind Tammy Abraham, and until the young Englishman didn’t suffer an injury recently, Giroud wasn’t playing too much. Tottenham, West Ham, Everton along with Inter and Lazio are interested in his services, and would like to sign the experienced striker. It is up to him to choose the next destination.
Chelsea is ahead of an important transfer window, during which Lampard needs to complete his team and make it competitive for much higher challenges that this season. It probably why they started operating now.
