We all know that Sir Charles Barkley hasn’t got the problem to say what is on his mind, no matter the consequences. After all, ain’t he one of the best trash-talkers we’ve ever seen.
Earlier today, Kyrie Irving felt what is like when Barkley rips you. And to say right away, this was pretty hard.
“He’s got to be one of the most miserable people I’ve ever seen,” Barkley said for ESPN’s Get Up on Thursday show.
As we said, pretty harsh. Now, what was the reason for such a statement?

Irving recently complained about the media and the fact that all the hype and publicity bothers him. He doesn’t want all that media attention anymore, and that he also attacked journalists that they were one of the causes for a bad atmosphere in Boston’s team.
“I didn’t really come into this game for there to be cameras in my face, be famous, be a celebrity, so it’s a little hard for me,” he told this Monday, adding that note about media hurting the chemistry of the team. “Media has broken up locker rooms. It’s been done before.”
His words triggered many reactions. The social networks were flooded with Uncle Drew commercials and video footages, under which stood a note that he invented this fictional character. The remarks included questions why he did that if he doesn’t like the publicity, and why he appeared in a vast number of commercials.
Jalen Rose was also critical, stating that with all that money he earned it shouldn’t be a problem for Irving to speak to the camera, a couple of minutes before and after the game. However, he wasn’t straightforward as Barkley was.
The former Sixers, Suns and Rockets player explained his reasons for this no doubt controversial claim. From his point of view, a person who has a fantastic past and even better future, with the prospects of winning another championship title, and making hundreds of millions of dollars, can’t allow himself to behave like that.
Especially to complain about the media.
“You can get on television and complain about ‘oh I can’t wait to get away from this.’ Dude, we’re paying you $40 million a year! You ain’t never going to get away from this.”
He also mentioned one other fact, which might not be pleasant for Kyrie either. We all know how he forced a trade from Cleveland to Boston, stating that he wants to get out of LeBron’s shadow and to has his own team.
Well, the way Barkley sees it, it is nice to have your own team, especially when your winning. But when the losses start coming, you have to embrace that too, not just the good times. It is nice when you get credits, but be prepared to endure critics and adversities.

“When you’re a star, and I’ve been a star, you get all the credit, but you get all the blame. That ain’t right, that ain’t fair, that’s just how it is,” Sir Charles explained.
Irving wasn’t the only one who got slammed by Barkley this morning. Commissioner Adam Silver did too.
Recently Silver admitted that many players came up to him, saying that they feel unhappy because of social media, adding that he understands them.
For Barkley, this was the stupidest thing Silver ever said.
“I think that’s probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard Adam say. And listen, he’s a great guy, but that’s the stupidest thing I might have ever heard any commissioner say. Listen, these guys are making $20, 30, 40 million a year, they work 6-7 months a year, we stay in the best hotels in the world. They ain’t got no problems. That’s totally bogus.”
Though his approach is unconventional and a bit raw, Barkley, who is a perfect example of old school NBA, has a point. In nowadays, superstars are more demanding and less reachable, often being a bit spoiled. Some of them even believe that the game is here because of them, instead of vice versa.
The pressure on them is very high, no doubt about that, but being professional demands self-control, especially if that brings tens of millions of dollars per year.
And as for this case. We wait now for Kyrie’s reaction.
