Inter and Porto should deliver a very intriguing matchup in the UEFA Champions League round of 16. These two teams hold five UCL titles combined and numerous other trophies, and overall, both feel they have a chance to progress to eight of the best teams in Europe. Both are in good form with excellent results, and we should see interesting battles in both legs. The first is at Giuseppe Meazza in Milan this Wednesday night.
Inter vs. Porto Preview
Inter Milan (-115) beat Udinese on Saturday night, 3-1, bouncing back following a goalless draw in Genoa against Sampdoria. Simone Inzaghi and the boys have just one defeat in the past ten games. During that span, Nerazzurri won seven contests and had two draws.
Inter had a shaky first half of the season, but as time goes by, the three-time European champs are getting better and better. Before the event against Udinese, their defense delivered three clean sheets in a row, which needs to be acknowledged.
At Meazza, Nerazzurri are more than confident, with nine victories and just one loss over the most recent ten clashes. Throughout that stretch, we’ve seen them keeping six clean sheets. By the way, the game vs. Udinese was the first following six consecutive with fewer than three hits.
Porto (+365) is on fire. Check this out. The Dragons are without a loss for the last 22 games, having three draws and 19 victories across all the competitions, like Primeira Liga, Taca de Portugal, Cup de Portugal, and the Champions League.
They are riding a 10-game victorious streak coming into Wednesday’s meeting, scoring two or more goals in seven of those triumphs while keeping eight clean sheets.
We can’t say which part of the team is better because both the defense and offense play very good football and are consistent in both directions. Porto allowed just one goal on the previous seven road trips, and has won six matches in that interval with a single draw.
Inter vs. Porto Latest News
The only injured player in Inter is Joaquin Correa. Gosens and Brozovic are healthy to play.
Porto has problems with absent players, as Veron and Evanilson still can’t play due to their respective injuries. Otavio could be back in the lineup, the same as Cardoso.
Inter vs. Porto Head to Head Games
The two powerhouses met four times, all in the Champions League. In the 2005 edition, Inter eliminated Porto in the Round of 16 of the competition, 1-1 in Portugal and 3-1 at Meazza, while next season, two clubs played in the group stage. Porto was better at home 2-0, while Inter won 2-1 in Italy. The Dragons had a lead at halftime but blew it away in the latter 45 minutes.
Inter vs. Porto Prediction
We don’t expect to see too many goals here, two at most, but on the other side, we also don’t expect to see Porto winning nor getting away with a draw. The Dragons are coming to defend at Meazza, yet with all the injuries on their side, Inter simply has to win. Porto has fantastic chemistry on the field, yet those couple of names who won’t be ready to play are of extreme importance for the two-time European champs. That’s why we pick Inter to win.
Pick: Inter wins -115
