The fact that both AC Milan and Tottenham aren’t in some particularly great form gives hope for either side to progress to the next stage. Milan has been terrible since the World Cup ended, and to be honest, Tottenham is slightly better but comes into this event following a disastrous performance this weekend. The Spurs are favorites to reach the quarterfinals because of the home-field edge in the rematch and a bit deeper roster.
Preview
AC Milan (+165) has finally won. Their victim was Torino, whom they defeated 1-0 this Friday night, and that was the first win for Rossoneri after seven consecutive without success. To make it even worse, Milan lost the past four, allowing 13 goals.
Throughout that stretch, the Italian champs scored in only one event, which is a clear indicator of their struggles in the offense. Leao and the boys can’t return to their previous form, and the results are immediately visible.
Six of the past nine events Milan played ended with at least three goals. They conceded two or more on five occasions, and Stefano Pioli is ahead of massive problems coming into one of the most important games of the year for him and his club. The pressure is high, and he doesn’t have many solutions to settle the situation.
Tottenham (+160) had three straight wins before a crash at the Kings Power Stadium when Leicester knocked out the Spurs 4-1. To make it even more interesting, Tottenham took the lead early on and was ahead, but once the Foxes began pounding, everything was over.
Until Saturday, Antonio Conte’s unit had three successes in a row, two away from home, in all of them, Tottenham kept a clean sheet. They would beat Fulham at Craven Cottage, 0-1, then Preston in the FA Cup, also away from home, 0-3, before triumphing vs. Manchester City, 1-0.
Tottenham’s events on the road are exciting, and four of the past five were with three or more hits, and three with at least four goals. The Spurs recorded three wins and two defeats throughout that stretch.
Latest News
Bennacer, Tomori, Maignan and Florenzi are all on the injury list, but there are some indications that Maignan could be back in the lineup.
Tottenham’s goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is out, as well as Yves Bissouma and these two won’t be available for the game on Tuesday. Pape Sar and Lucas Moura will be doubtful.
Head to Head Games
The Spurs and Milan met at the same stage of the knockouts back in 2011, and the English club had more success then. They would beat Milan in Italy, 0-1, and then lock the defense in London to end the match 0-0. It was the last official event between these powerhouses.
Prediction
The Spurs look more serious and stable than Milan, even though they show incredible inconsistency. Milan is falling apart, and we don’t know the reason, while on the other side, the Spurs seem more formidable despite all of their flaws. There is one more thing we need to take into account, which is Conte’s knowledge of Milan and its players. It is one more reason why to bet on the guests’ victory.
Pick: Tottenham +160
