Cam Newton will not play against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend. After additional medical evaluations and assessments, the Carolina Panthers have decided to spare the 2015 MVP from Sunday’s contest. Newton is ruled out, and his replacement will be Kyle Allen, who will start for the second time in his career.
Super Cam has problems with his left foot. He’s been dealing with that injury for a long time, and it was never fully healed. The QB played hurt on the opening day of the season and in Week 2, then had a short week before facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football. In that match, Newton complicated the injury, which is why he won’t be available now.
What could be even more problematic for the franchise from North Carolina is the fact that they could be without their leader for at least one more weekend. The soreness of the foot is very intense, and the only medicine for that is rest.
Panthers officially ruled out QB Cam Newton due to his foot injury, meaning Carolina QB Kyle Allen will start Sunday vs Cardinals.

According to Ron Rivera, the player is recovering very good, but the thing is that he needs more time. If by any chance he had some in the past, things would be much easier for him, and there is no doubt that the current situation wouldn’t have happened in the first place.
“He’s actually coming along well,” coach Ron Rivera said Friday. “The unfortunate part was last week he was playing on a short week, and the foot didn’t have time to come back, as far as I understand it. It was pretty sore. It was just one of those things where we have to wait it out and see where it is [next week].”
The Panthers are determined not to risk and hurry with Newton, as the entire season of this team depends upon his health and productivity.
“The one thing we don’t want to do is have another setback,” Rivera stated to the journalists.
It is because of this that the Pathers are willing to go with Allen, who truth to be told wasn’t bad in the past. He had one start as a QB for the Panthers, and the team won, against the New Orleans Saints, in last season’s closing game. It was 33-14 for Carolina, and Allen threw for 228 yards, completing 16 his 27 passing attempts, posting 2 touchdowns. He didn’t have a single interception or was sacked, and his QBR was 94.4.

Allen is from Glendale, Arizona, and while growing up, he was often watching the Cardinals play. The reporters wanted to know more about that, and they were curious to hear the players’ thoughts on that.
“For me, it’s weird, but I just look at it as work,” Allen said.
There is one more connection between him and the Cardinals, and that is the No.1 pick from this year’s draft, Kyler Murray. The two guys were briefly together at Texas A&M back in 2015, and both of them were transferred in the short period of time.
The 23-year old Allen then played for Houston University just one year because of the NCAA transfer guidelines that demand transfers to sit out a single year. He didn’t post some astonishing numbers and was even benched after a few weeks.
Regardless of that, he decided to proceed and apply for the draft, where he went undrafted. He would be later signed by the Panthers and is still in North Carolina. The debut for Rivera’s team was against the Falcons on December 23, 2018, when Newton’s backup Taylor Heinicke had to go out momentarily. Allen had completed all of his four passes for 38 yards before Heinicke cam back.
We’ll see how he handles Cardinals on Sunday.
