Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin open Round 3 of the German Bundesliga. The two sides meet at Borussia Park, which will no doubt be filled with fans until the last seat. Monch has four points in two games, missing a nice opportunity to triumph on the road against Schalke. Meanwhile, Hertha posted a loss, and a draw in the opening two events, plus, the Old Lady from Berlin suffered elimination from the DFB Pokal. Things will get messy for the guests early on into the season if they lose tonight, and they simply can’t allow that.
Preview
Borussia Monchengladbach (-200) lost two points in Gelsenkirchen, allowing a goal in the third minute of stoppage time from the penalty. The game against Schalke ended 2-2, and we can say that Monch deserved it to win.
However, all that is past, and the hosts need to focus on the upcoming event as they have solid chances to win. Furthermore, they are huge favorites. Monch plays well, and has been without a defeat since the start of the preseason, and when we count all those games the unbeaten streak reaches nine events.
After smashing Oberachern in the DFB Pokal 1-9, and beating Hoffenheim at home, 3-1, many saw that Borussia could be in the mix for the top four places and the Champions League spot. Yes, it is still early, but this unit plays good football. We also want to say that only one of those nine above-mentioned games didn’t see both teams netting.
Hertha Berlin (+500) is in problems. Counting in the preseason period, they have six games without a win, five of them losing. The most recent draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, 1-1 snapped a five-game losing streak. It was also the first game in which the Old Lady didn’t allow two or more goals after four consecutive.
So the defense is the problem for Sandro Schwarz and he has to take care of it. The attack is doing well, more or less, delivering goals in each event. That is why both teams have scored in Hertha’s the past five games.
This unit barely survived last year in the Bundesliga, but we didn’t see notable improvement during summer, and for the moment, they are one of the top candidates for relegation.
Latest News
Several players are questionable for Borussia, all of them extremely important – Bensebaini, Elvedi, Itakura, and Stindl.
On the other side, Maolida, Plattenhardt, and Scherhant are questionable, while Gechter, Lee Dong-Jung, Ngankam, and Nsona are all out.
Head to Head Games
Both teams had a win in last year’s events. The first game in Berlin, saw Hertha winning, 1-0, while the second ended with Borussia’s triumph, 2-0.
Prediction
The hosts are in much better shape now, and they should win this event. Borussia is better in pretty much all the lines, and what we believe would be a big advantage for the home unit is their attack which should break Hertha’s defense without any problems. Once that happens, we might see several hits in the guest’s net.
Pick: Borussia wins -200
