On Saturday, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke meet in the Revierderby at Signal Iduna Park. This is one of the biggest rivalries in Germany, and even though it isn’t violent as some others, it carries a massive significance for either side. Borussia is in the upper part of the standings while Schalke sits in the middle, with not such great performances. Though, Borussia didn’t thrill either. They had luck on several occasions and got away with positive results, but lately, they have failed to deliver.
Preview
Borussia Dortmund (-300) was minutes away from making a bug upset in Manchester and beating City at Etihad. Though, Stones and their former player, Haaland, have prevented Edin Terzic’s crew from celebrating on the road. Dortmund allowed goals in the last 10 minutes, suffering a second straight defeat.
The previous one was in Leipzig to RB, who defeated the Millionaires 3-0, blowing their defense into pieces. In that one, we saw numerous flaws this unit has, especially in the defensive area. Despite them not conceding in three games prior to these, against Copenhagen, Hoffenheim and Hertha, Borussia didn’t look well, and this is mostly because they had a huge amount of luck.
The Millionaires played four Bundesliga events at Signal-Iduna Park, and won three, losing just one. In all three victories, Borussia kept its net intact. Edin Terzic is a defensive-minded head coach, and he likes to protect its goal first and attack later.
Schalke (+700) plays very dull and uninteresting football. They have only one win in Bundesliga this season, which happened in the previous round against Bochum at home, 3-1. Overall, this unit doesn’t have a quality for anything more than a relegation battle.
In five games prior to this one against Bochum, the Miners had two defeats and three draws, showing lots of oscillations and inconsistency. Frank Kramer doesn’t have some notable names at his disposal, and, logically, he can’t make significant results.
Schalke lost one and played two games without winners on the road. The defeat was in Koln, 3-1, and draws in Wolfsburg, 0-0 and Stuttgart, 1-1.
Latest News
Dahoud, Haller, Kobel, Mourey Bauza and Bynoe-Gittens will all be out for the hosts on Saturday.
On the other side, the only absent player is Kaminski.
Head to Head Games
Revierderby in total, we’ve seen 158 Revierderbies so far, and Schalke has a light margin over the rivals, winning 60 games, while Borussia posted 55 triumphs.
The previous three all ended in the Millionaires’ favor, and we can add that Borussia didn’t have any mercy for the Miners. In those three events, the total goal difference was 11-0 in Dortmund’s favor.
Preview
Even though we don’t trust Borussia too much, this is a game they need to win. Schalke is way beneath their quality, and after two losses in a row, suffering one at Signal-Iduna would cause a catastrophe in the locker room. All the poor results and performances could be erased against a weak rival, which makes this a perfect opportunity for the hosts to get back on the right track. Therefore we pick Borussia.
Pick: Borussia Dortmund to win -300
