The Buffalo Bills trashed the Super Bowl winners, LA Rams, 31-10, on the opening night of the NFL 2022 season. Fantastic Josh Allen destroyed the champions, delivering four touchdowns, three via air and one on the ground.
From what we saw last night, the Bills are the top favorites for winning the Super Bowl for a reason, and Josh Allen is the top contender for the NFL MVP award, also for a reason. Allen had 297 passing yards last night, not completing only five of his 31 passes, with three of them ending as touchdowns. Also, Allen had 56 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground.
The Bills opened the game well, scoring on the opening drive, but after that, had two turnovers that the Rams couldn’t utilize. Until the end of halftime, the hosts erased a 10-point deficit, and both teams went to the locker room leveled. But that was when the Bills turned up their turbo mode.
“There’s a lot to learn, but that second half, that’s who we want to be, going out there and executing that way,” Allen said. “We were 90% on third down. That’s a recipe for success.”

Two touchdowns and a ferocious defense, in the third period, followed by an intercepted pass on Stafford and another touchdown early in the fourth, were what blew away the hosts, opening the way to the victory for the Bills.
We have to say that the guests also had turnovers, one more than the Rams, 4-3, but Sean McDermott’s crew was far more clinical with the ball in their possession, and the main reason for that was Allen, who dictated the tempo throughout the entire event.
Another factor on the Bills’ side that was forgotten by many due to Allen’s clinic, was Buffalo’s pass rush. Matt Stafford suffered seven sacks in this event, and that’s something we haven’t seen in a while. Not only did he endure a lot of beating, but the Rams lost 49 yards. Of course, Von Miller made an immediate impact with two sacks on his former teammate.
“We’re going to celebrate this win, because you have to, but then we’re going to go back to the lab,” he stated after the game.
Allen’s touchdown passes went to Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis and Isaiah McKenzie. Diggs had 122 receiving yards, Davis 88.
On the other side, Stafford collected 240 passing yards, one touchdown, and three picks, 29-for-41, with his sole TD pass ending in Cooper Kupp’s hands. Last year’s top receiver was the only one worth mentioning in the Rams, with 128 receiving yards in 13 receptions. The rushing game was awful, with 52 yards on 18 carries, 13 of them by Dan Henderson, who had 47 yards.
“Very humbling night, but one where you look yourself in the mirror and say you have to be better,” McVay admitted after the game. “We weren’t ready to go. That’s on me.”
The general impression is that the Rams aren’t at the needed level but have what it takes to defend the championship. The defense was solid, only this time, it was Stafford and the running backs who failed to deliver.
On the other side, the Bills have to be a bit more careful with the football, but against the Rams, you can’t do much better, to be honest.
Up next, the Bills are going back home to meet the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football, while the Rams host the Atlanta Falcons.
