Warm weather, barbecues, fireworks, and of course … baseball.
MLB action is nonstop on July 4th, with 24 teams in action beginning with Marlins-Nationals at 11:05 ET and culminating with Padres-Dodgers at 9:10 ET.
Are there certain teams who really step it up on our nation’s birthday? What are the best MLB bets to make on the 4th of July? I will answer both of those questions. Let’s dig in!
Top Profiting 4th of July MLB Teams
Thanks to Killersports which has MLB betting data since 2004, I was able to find anything and everything about 4th of July games.
I figure a logical place to start is presenting the best and worst teams in 4th of July games. Both winning percentage and total profits are both practical ways of ranking teams. Rather than choosing one or the other, I included two separate top-5 lists and two separate bottom-5 lists.
Here are the top-5 teams on 4th of July since 2004. On top are the teams with the best winning percentage in July 4th games and beneath them are the top-5 profiting teams in 4th of July games.
The top-5 teams in winning percentage happen to be the same 5 that lead the league in 4th of July profits. Each of these teams is a good bet on the 4th, but after digging deeper, I really like the A’s.
Oakland holds the league’s longest unbeaten streak on 4th of July – winning on the 4th in 7 straight seasons.
In 2019, Oakland hosts the Minnesota Twins on the 4th of July. This is significant because the A’s have taken care of business against visiting teams from across the country.
Since 2004, the A’s have played 6 games on the 4th of July in which they hosted a team from either the Central or Eastern time zone. Oakland went 5-1 in these contests.
A’s over Twins is my favorite 4th of July play this year.
Worst Performing 4th of July MLB Teams
As with the top-5, I will list the bottom-5 teams in 4th of July win percentage and in 4th of July profits. Here they are!
Of the teams on these lists, the Orioles are the coldest – losers of 5-straight 4th of July games. Baltimore is not in action on the 4th this year.
In fact, from this list only the Tigers and Royals are playing on the 4th this year. Detroit is in Chicago against the White Sox while KC hosts Cleveland.
Since 2004, Kansas City has played 7 home 4th of July games – posting a 3-4 record. Thanks to being the underdog, bettors of these games have mostly broken even.
The Tigers have been atrocious in 4th of July road games. Since 2004, Detroit is just 1-9 in these games, losing bettors over $800!
The White Sox over the Tigers is my second-favorite MLB pick on the 4th this year!
