The Chicago Bears easily defeated the Washington Redskins on tonight’s Monday Night Football, proving that they forgot the season opener against the Green Bay Packers. It was 31-15 for Matt Nagy’s guys, who had no troubles at all to restrain Jay Gruden’s crew.
This was the 17th time over the last 18 MNF events for Washington to lose. The Bears’ tough and relentless defense was hurting the hosts all night long. They forced the Redskins to commit five turnovers, two fumbles and three interceptions, all by their starting QB Case Keenum. The 31-year old was harassed by Khalil Mack who had quite the night, with two sacks, QB hits, and forced fumbles. Keenum was also sacked four times, losing 45 yards.
“These guys they just showed up and showed up,” said Mack during the on-court post-game interview. “We expect to come out and dominate football teams, these guys, Paty, Ha Ha, Kyle, Eddie Jackson, Prince. I got to take those guys to dinner. I got to take them to dinner this weekend.”
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix got his revenge on the Redskins, who decided not to keep him in DC following the end of the last season. The former Green Bay Packers intercepted Keenum’s pass at 9:42 left in the first, making a 37-yard return for his first touchdown in pro football.
The Bears allowed just 37 rushing yards to one of the best running backs ever, Adrian Peterson who carried the ball on 12 occasions. Overall, it was a display of their dominance on the defensive side of the ball, and a warning to all what they can do.
Meanwhile, there was one more guy who reminded everyone about his potential and what he can do. Mitch Trubisky threw three touchdown passes and one interception, for 231 yards, 25 of 31. He had a burst in the second period once he delivered all of his three TD passes, ending the first half with just 3 incompletions for 173 yards.
His favorite target was Taylor Gabriel who executed all those three TDs and had 6 receptions for 75 yards. Allen Robinson also had 6 catches only for 60 yards.
Keenum had one of the worst nights of his career, despite throwing two touchdown passes and recording 332 yards. The majority of them came in the moments when the game was already decided. At the halftime, the Redskins were down 28-3, and the frustrated fans booed them off the field, focusing their anger on Keenum, and demanding from Gruden to replace him with the rookie Dwayne Haskins.
Following the match, Washington’s head coach underlined that he would stick with Keenum and that there won’t be any changes at the moment.
“The most important thing is that we have to have some continuity. You know I can’t be changing people every five minutes or so. I got to give Case an opportunity to play with these new guys. This is his first time with this offense, really,” Gruden answered one question which was about a possibility of Haskins starting the match in the near future.

The Redskins are not looking good at all, and their 0-3 start tells you pretty much everything. The majority of fingers are pointed towards the defensive coordinator Greg Manusky, whose job is not safe anymore. Gruden too is starting to feel pressure, and we might add that at some point he will have to please the fans and give them Haskins. Otherwise, he will have the entire stadium against him.
Washington has a divisional match coming up next against the New York Giants on the road. The fired-up hosts will have Daniel Jones at the starting quarterback position, and they will try to post a second triumph in a row.
Meanwhile, the Bears also have a divisional derby, against the Minnesota Vikings at the Soldier Field. It will be a very important match for Chicago who needs to win this one and stay behind the Packers who are perfect at the moment.
