Bayern Munich will meet Liverpool in its final preseason test before coming back to Germany. The two powerhouses are on tour through Asia, and so far, we can say that the Reds have more reasons to be happy. Klopp’s crew posted a few good displays, having problems in defense but clicking perfectly in attack. On the other side, Bayern’s games were frustrating and the German powerhouse would need plenty of work to improve until the start of the season.
Preview
Bayern Munich (+135) beat a lower-tier team, Rottach-Egern 27-0 before taking off to Asia. It was a solid intro for Thomas Tuchel’s crew, who later failed to meet the expectations.
At first, the Bavarians lost to Manchester City 2-1. The English team didn’t play with the best team and Guardiola combined his lineups. This event showed Bayern’s weaknesses and proved our assessment that the Germans need a typical striker.
Those claims were further backed up against Kawasaki, whom Bayern defeated 1-0. In that event, we saw the Bundesliga champions struggling to deliver in the box, complicating and wasting numerous chances. Also, it is obvious already now that Tuchel didn’t adapt to Bayern’s previous systems, which we far more offensive-minded than his.
Liverpool (+160) had just one game in Asia, but they had two tests prior to that. At first, the Reds met Karlsruhe, with whom they played 4-4, then Greutherfurth, 4-2, and in the most recent event, we saw Liverpool demolishing Leicester 4-0.
In all the events, the attack was flawless, constantly producing chances and being highly efficient. This is something that Liverpool lacked last year, and overall, the biggest virtue of the team from Anfield Road in the seasons before that.
On the other hand, the defense was shaky. Klopp struggled with the backline in the 2022/23 campaign, and apparently, that will be his main issue now. In the years when Liverpool won trophies, Van Dijk and the lads were impregnable.
Latest News
Both teams haven’t issued any updates on the availability of their top stars ahead of this event. It is expected to see them with the best possible squads.
Head to Head Games
In 2018 the two units played in the Champions League Round of 16. After a goalless draw at Anfield, the Reds went on to beat Bayern 3-1 in Munich. Sadio Mane scored twice and Van Dijk once, silencing the overcrowded Allianz Arena.
Predictions
The philosophy of these two units relies upon offense. Even though Tuchel isn’t as aggressive and offensive as his predecessors, Bayern’s players tend to attack all the time. On the other side, Liverpool is fantastic during the preseason when it comes to scoring. Salah and the boys are working well, and they should be able to score a few times against the Bavarians. We expect to see the Germans netting at least once because of Liverpool’s defensive struggles, so our pick here would be for both teams to score and over 2.5 goals. The odds aren’t high as we would like, but the risk is low.
Pick: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals -200
