Aaron Rodgers’ fantastic performance, led his Green Bay to a magnificent win over the Oakland Raiders. The two-time MVP was the pivotal figure in Packs 42-24 victory.
Rodgers threw five touchdown passes and added one more by running, to destroy Jon Gruden’s defense. When many Packers fans began worrying about the future due to multiple injuries among their favorites, the No.12 decided that it is time for him to step up and make a show.
It was without a doubt his best game so far this season, with 429 yards and 25 completed passes in 31 attempts. Just to remind you he didn’t have his primary target, Davante Adams. The other two receivers, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Geronimo Allison, came in this match with minor injuries and had limitations with their snaps.
Eventually, Valdes-Scantling had one TD in two receptions for fantastic 133 yards. Nevertheless, it was all because of AR. Those 429 yards were the fourth-best result for him, and he became the first Packer in the Super Bowl era with a maximum passer rating of 158.3. He also became the first quarterback with five TD passes and a rushing TD since Mark Rypien back in 1991.
“I feel like this has been coming,” said Rodgers after the contest. “I feel we’ve been building, and I been feeling lot more comfortable. And Matt’s been feeling more comfortable.”
Jimmy Graham had 4 catches for 65 yards, Jake Kumerow 54 yards in two catches and a touchdown, while Green Bay’s running backs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams both caught a pass for a TD. Matt LaFleur prepared excellent plays that pretty much confused the guests from Oakland. That is how the home team’s RBs ended up catching the football.
Oakland led at the start, with Daniel Carlson’s 45-yard FG. However, Aaron Jones scored the first touchdown and put the Packers ahead for the first time. Foster Moreau responded after a 10-yard pass from Derek Carr, and that was pretty much it from the Raiders.
After that, the Packers started d delivering touchdowns one by one. During the midpoint of the last period, Valdes-Scantling sealed the fate of the visitors from California, with a 74-yard TD.
“Out offensive line did a great job providing time for him (Rodgers) to find open guys,” said LaFleur at the press conference. “He’s still created and extended some plays. But I thought that our receiving core played really well. I was really happy for those guys.”
On the other side, Derek Carr didn’t have his day at all. Although he threw 293 yards for two TDs and didn’t complete 6 of his 28 throws, Carr had one fumble and an interception. Except for Darren Waller, who had 8 catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns, the Raiders didn’t have a guy who could hurt the hosts.
Carr was pretty frustrated because of a fumble he had at the goal line.
“In that moment I was telling it was so hard, not to try (to score). That’s everything I ever been about in my life. You know try.”
Josh Jacobs began the game very well, rushing for 42 yards on the opening drive of the day, but as time went by, the Packers slowed the rookie. At the end of the night, Jacobs had 124 yards on 21 carries.
The Raiders have three wins and losses each and will travel next week to Houston to meet the Texans who lost earlier today against the Colts.
Meanwhile, the Packers (6-1) are heading for Kansas City, in search of another win, this time against the Patrick-Mahomeless Chiefs.
