Seattle Seahawks Trade for Safety Jamal Adams

The New York Jets got rid of Jamal Adams tonight, shipping the strong safety to Seattle Seahawks. It appears that this deal worked out just fine for all three parties involved.

Jets’ send the player and a 2022 fourth-round pick to Seattle, with the Seahawks giving Bradley McDougald and 2021 and 2022 first-round draft picks, as well as the 2021 third-rounder.

“You have a man on a mission, a man all in on winning a Super Bowl, being the best leader & teammate he can be, & a man who will give everything he has to the city of Seattle and to the 12s all across the world. Thank you for believing in me!” Jets’ former player wrote on his Twitter account after the news broke out.

Adams, a 24-year old strong safety, has been pretty frustrated over the recent few months with his position in New York. One of the best defenders in the league, and arguably the best safety, was hoping to get himself an extension with the team even though he didn’t enter the fourth year of his rookie contract.

After seeing a couple of his draft classmates getting massive arrangements, Adams demanded the same and was after a deal that would secure him around $17 million per year, according to various sources from inside the league. On the other hand, the Jets weren’t willing to give him that amount of money, nor did they want to start talking about the extension this early.

That was something infuriating for Adams, who then began making problems with his public comments, hurting the already vulnerable team’s chemistry. A month ago, he requested a trade and even created a list of the possible destinations suitable for him.

Among them was Seattle. Pete Carroll did wait for some time before making a move, and it seems that the signal for his reaction came this week. Adams was all over Adam Gase and the entire organization, attacking them on the social networks and through the media.

The Seahawks’ head coach then decided to react and put a sounding offer on the table, which eventually worked out just fine. Even before this move, Carroll had one of the most talented teams in the NFL, and after today’s trade, the potential increased massively.

As for the Jets, they got two first-round picks in the next two years, which allows them to make multiple calculations. They might use these choices for some other trades or deals, or simply pick up players when the time comes. The franchise from New York won’t have the proper replacement for Adams in McDougald, but that is short-term minus, which will easily be erased and forgotten.

Also, the chemistry and peace in the locker room are preserved.

As for Adams, he got exactly what he wanted, a team with Super Bowl ambitions, and a chance to prove himself worthy of big money. Once the news about his trade appeared, the sixth overall pick at the 2017 NFL draft began celebrating and making live videos on his Instagram account in which he shares the excitement for leaving New York.

However, he did say goodbye to the fans and the city, not mentioning the franchise in a single word.
