The New York Jets safety Jamal Adams requested a trade earlier this Thursday the sources report.
Adams, who is arguably the best safety in the NFL right now, posted via his Instagram account a phrase that upset the Jets’ fans and indicated that something isn’t right.
“Maybe it’s time to move on!” he wrote as a part of an answer on one other post, with the note that the previous part of his reply wasn’t very pleasant.
“Ima protect myself just like an organization will look out for themselves at the end of the day, and if you guys don’t respect that, cool.”

Earlier this week, Adams would fire a few words towards his current team, saying that they haven’t made the right offer to him regarding the new contract, which is something he wanted.
The 24-year has a valid contract until the end of the 2021 season, but he already indicated that he wouldn’t be playing if the franchise doesn’t give him a new deal. Adams isn’t hiding his displeasure for a long time, and even during the previous season, he made a couple of statements where he directly called out the Jets for being inferior about his future.
What is very odd is the fact that the Jets are reportedly very satisfied with Adams and that they want to keep him long-term, but for now, the franchise from NY hasn’t done anything about that.
Adams is one of the best defenders in the league, and a definite game-changer, even though he didn’t have a proper environment in his team. The opinion of many experts is that the Jets would be much worse without Adams on the defensive squad, and that the organization needs to find a way to keep him long-term.
What might be one of the reasons for Adams’ displeasure is the fact that several players from his draft class already got the extensions even though they haven’t reached the fourth year in the league.
For instance, Panthers’ Christian McCaffrey inked a new deal, while on the other side, Myles Garrett from the Browns and Patrick Mahomes, the reigning Super Bowl champion from the Chiefs, are near a new agreement. The former MVP was a part of his response on Instagram.
“Pat is about to get 40 to 60 M’s [millions] a year. Well deserved,” Adams wrote. “But don’t compare me to QB’s if you aren’t paying me QB money. S—, if I was about to get 40 plus, you wouldn’t hear a damn word from me.”
Jamal Adams:
▫️2x All Pro, 2x Pro Bowler
▫️Only 24 years old
▫️*Currently* under contract through 2021 for $10.7M total
▫️Game-changing, play-wrecking safety
▫️He and JJ Watt are the only players in NFL history with 200+ tackles, 10+ sacks & 25+ PBU within their first 3 seasons— Field Yates (@FieldYates) June 18, 2020
Adams was the sixth overall pick in the 2017 draft, and he immediately established himself as one of the best defensive backs. The would earn two Pro Bowl selections in the last two years, and was also an All-Pro, with the note that he went First-team All-Pro in 2019.
Jets’ safety has 12 sacks in his career so far, which is the highest number ever for his position tracking the stats. He also has six forced fumbles, which is the second-most during that period, 272 tackles, and 2,999 snaps.
He is set to earn $3.5 million in 2020, and $9.9 million in 2021 season, which is far greater than he wants. According to the sources within the club, Adams’ wants a salary similar to CJ Mosley’s, which is $17 million per year.
