Timo Werner is officially the new Chelsea player. What has been expected since the start of this month finally happened, and it could be said that the Blues did a superb job here.
They have Werner a five-year deal, worth $11.2 million annually, and the team from London also paid $59 million to Red Bull Leipzig. It is not the sum which most of the experts predicted, but right now we haven’t heard whether there are some incentives and bonuses.
“I’m incredibly happy to be joining the Blues next season! It feels like the right step for me, and I am delighted to become a part of Chelsea FC. Really looking forward to playing for such a fantastic and historic club!” the German wrote on his Twitter account.

He leaves Red Bull after four years of playing there, during which he became one of the best attackers in the world. Werner showed his skillset in various competitions, and against top European teams, always having a decisive influence on his team’s results.
In 157 games played for the team from Leipzig, Werner had 93 goals and 40 assists, and even though this is impressive, his impact on the field is even greater.
The 24-year old decided to join Chelsea immediately after the season in Bundesliga concludes, and to avoid appearing in the Champions League. Some criticized his move, while others understood it.
Werner thanked all the people who supported him while playing for Red Bull, saying that he will never forget the time spent in the team from the Eastern Part of Germany.
“I, of course, want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years. You will forever be in my heart,” he stated.
Red Bull became one of the top teams in Germany and Europe as well, and Werner, along with several other players, needs to be credited the most because of that. His individual qualities are superb, and there aren’t many players who could play at his level constantly.
On the other side, Chelsea got the player they wanted – quick, versatile, and above all, with a deadly finishing. He will no doubt present a massive threat to all the defenses once teams up with Tammy Abraham and Hakim Ziyech, who is also a new face in the squad.
As you all know, Frank Lampard likes to play offensive, and ever since he took over the team from Stamford Bridge, he’s been trying to create a lineup able to play fast and aggressive football.
Lampard brought in several youngsters from the youth academy, giving them the opportunity to show their qualities, which they did. Right now, Chelsea has one of the youngest teams in the entire Premiership, and what is more important, their chemistry seems quite good.
The biggest advantage for all these guys is the fact that they are hit the prime years, and that as time goes by, they will be better and better. With Werner, who is relatively young himself, the Blues would get the core of the team for the next several years.
As for Red Bull, they have a few names ready to step in and try to replace the pacey forward. Julian Nagelsmann is known for his touch to recognize the talents, and having in mind that RB has a solid scouting academy, they will continue producing players like these.
