The Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Giants on Monday Night Football and stayed in the race for the top spot in the NFC East division. The game which took place at the MetLife Stadium ended with 37-18 in favor of the guests from Texas.
The clash of two big rivals, and arguably the two biggest franchises in sport, provided a decent and interesting battle. The Giants opened the night better, and reached a solid lead, but didn’t have enough gas to continue in the same manner throughout the entire event. That is, the Cowboys had a huge finish of the first half.

With 2:52 left in the second period, Aldrick Rosas made a 25-yard field goal, and the Giants went up to 12-3. At that moment, the atmosphere at MetLife was excellent, not only because of the home team’s lead, but also due to a black cat which interrupted the game. The security guards tried to “escort” the uninvited guest out, but he didn’t want to go out before reaching the end zone and amusing the crowd for a while.
But after Blake Jarwin’s 42-yard touchdown, Dallas came back into the game, and got a small swing before the break. However, that wasn’t all. Daniel Jones threw an interception to Xavier Woods, handing the guests a chance to score once more, which they did. Although it was just a field goal, it provided momentum for the Cowboys. As time ran out, Brett Maher drilled a 52-yarder to give the lead to his team.
Jones fumbled the ball early on in the second half, with Darian Thompson recovering it for the guests at the NYG 49 yards line. They couldn’t deliver a touchdown, but Maher once again made a field goal. Rosas responded with the same measure, with 27 seconds in the third, and the teams were almost even before coming into the final period.
But Dak Prescott decided to wake up.
He found Michael Gallup for 15 yards and a touchdown, at 2:20 in the fourth, and later connect Amari Cooper for a 45-yard TD, which finally pulled away the Cowboys to a safe distance. Until the end of the contest, Jones fumbled the football once more, Jourdan Lewis recovered the possession, and went all the way to the end zone for a 63-yard score.
“Another slow start, but we were able to turn this thing around, get going, got the right game going. Credit to the offensive line they opened the pass game, we were able to do what we wanted at the end of the game,” said the Cowboys QB.
It was Jones 8 fumble of the season, which is the league-leading at the moment. The young rookie who replaced Eli Manning is not 2-5 as a starter, but with the note that he had two straight victories in the beginning. Jones ended the night with 210 yards, 26 of 41, had one TD, one pick and two fumbles. On top of that, he was sacked four times for 40 yards.
Dak Prescott, on the other side, opened the game in the worst possible way – throwing an interception of the first play. He was experiencing a lot of problems in the first half, but managed to rise above the adversities and bring the 5th win of the season to his Cowboys.
Prescott threw 257 yards, 22 of 35, had three touchdowns, a fumble, but wasn’t sacked a single time tonight.
“I’ve been able to battle adversity, we are a tough team, just got to get out on our own way, continue to stay focused, and that is what we were able to do in that game, and come out with a win,” he said during the on-court interview.
Ezekiel Elliot was superb and collected 139 yards on the ground in 23 carries. Cooper had 80 in four receptions, while Jason Witten added 58 in eight.
On the other side, Saquon Barkley was better as a receiver (67 yards on 6 receptions), than at his primary position where he had season-low 28 yards on 14 carries. Jones rushed for 54 yards.
The Cowboys 5-3 are ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles who have one defeat more, and still have everything in their hands. They are 4-0 against the teams from NFC East which gives them a huge advantage over the Eagles who are 1-1 for now.
Meanwhile, the Giants are 2-7 and are slowly saying goodbye to their playoff hopes. They are meeting the poor Jets in an intra-city, interconference matchup next Sunday.
Dallas heads for Minnesota, to meet the Vikings on Sunday Night Football.
