The New England Patriots have been harassing Sam Darnold and his New York Jets all game long this Monday. The current Super Bowl champs tore apart Jets’ both defense and offense, demolishing the rival with 33-0 at MetLife Stadium.
It was one of the most frustrating nights for New York’s young quarterback Sam Darnold, who had 4 interceptions and a fumble tonight. The sophomore ended the contest with 86 yards, 11 for 32, and -1 rushing yard.
Eventually, his passer rating was 3.6, the second-worst in the history of the Jets, JJ Jones only had lower productivity, 2.7 in 1975.
But truth to be told, this wasn’t his fault. Apart from the Patriots being great and superb defensively, the Jets have other issues that contributed to Darnold’s demolition. For the first time this season, the left side of his offensive line played together. Both LG Alex Lewis and LT Chuma Edoga were backups at the start of the season, and today they began the contest for the first time. It is something Belichick immediately used, blitzing the opponent all night.
Three of Darnold’s four picks came after a blitz, and two of them were in the Patriots’ red zone.
As for the Patriots, they looked like a unit without a single flaw. The champs created a 17-0 lead early on in the first quarter and easily brought the match to its end. The defensive team proved to be arguably the best in the league so far and is without any doubt the main reason for New England’s perfect start. At the moment, no team has managed to score more than 14 points against the champions. At the end of the day, once you look at the stats, everything will be clear. The Jets had 154 yards, 6 turnovers, and 12 1st downs in this one.
Tom Brady was praising his teammates from the defensive crew following the game.
“They are doing a great job. Putting a lot of pressure on a quarterback, catching the ball. They got a lot of good players, so its fun to watch them.”
Brady didn’t have too many problems this Monday. NE’s no.12 finished the game with 249 yards, 31 for 45 and had one touchdown and interception each. He orchestrated the offense very good, but we need to add that the Pats didn’t have a worthy opponent on the other side. Five visitors’ players had 39 or more yards caught.
That sole TD pass was to Phillip Dorset for 26 yards, while the other three scores were delivered by Sony Michel, who rushed each time.

On the other side, Le’Veon Bell was the only bright spot, with 70 yards on 15 carries. Jets are now 1-5, and when everybody hoped that after beating the Cowboys, they might make another step forward, something like this happened.
The Patriots are 7-0 now, for the third time in their history and the first time since 2015. Many believe that this is one of the best teams Belichick formed since he took over New England, but Brady rules out any possibility of talking about that now.
“We are long way from thinking about those things, and again, happy we won. Seven wins doesn’t get you anything in the NFL.”
The Pats are now going back home to prepare for the Cleveland Browns, who are visiting Foxborough next week. After that, Brady and the boys go visit the Ravens in Baltimore.
On the other side, the Jets have a two-game road trip which starts in Jacksonville against the Jaguars and continues against the Dolphins in Miami.
