Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Gardner Minshew and their cornerback Jalen Ramsey are experiencing troubles with injuries. This could be a major issue for Doug Marrone and his team, as they have a huge game coming up this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte.
In order to speed up the recovery of these two guys, the team has decided that Minshew goes through a limited training this Wednesday and that Ramsey skips the entire session.
The 23-year old quarterback who has been replacing Nick Foles since Week 1, picked up an injury last Sunday against the Broncos, during a drive which led to Josh Lambo’s 33-yard game-winner. In the first snap of that drive, Denver’s LB Todd Davis hit Minshew down low and hurt him pretty badly. Yet, the rookie continued the game, showcasing his superb talent and pushing his team to a victory.
However, that injury is still bothering Minshew, and Doug Marrone decided to slow down with his training.
“I think we’ve just got to do a good job and be careful. He’ll be limited today,” said the Jags’ head coach. “I don’t think he can just come out here and just go, ‘Hey, everything’s fine. Everything’s great.’ I just think we have to be careful leading up to the game.”

Minshew has been instrumental over the last two games, managing to adjust to the demands of professional football very fast. He debuted in a loss against the Chiefs, 40-26, and lost another game after that, in Houston vs. the Texans 13-12. But he and the team bounced back with two wins after that against the Titans 20-7, and Broncos on the road 26-24. So far, he threw for 905 yards, with seven touchdowns and just one interception having 106.9 ratings.
Having in mind that he wasn’t projected to play this season, let alone start from Week 1, these figures are fantastic for this guy. It is probably why the Jags don’t want to risk his health, as they see a massive stake for the future in the former Washington State star.
According to Marrone, Josh Dobbs who came from Pittsburgh in a trade early September, will work with the first team and have reps. Dobbs, a 24-year old appeared in five games last season, completing 6 of his 12 passing attempts for 43 yards, without a TD and with one interception.
Meanwhile, the situation is even more complicated with Ramsey, who is officially struggling with a back injury. But unofficially multiple sources are saying that he wants to be traded from the team and that he avoids playing. He didn’t appear on the field since the game against Tennessee, and the reasons for that were various. At first, he was ill; after that his wife gave birth to their second child, and now his back is hurt. The root of all this is the dispute between him and Marrone during a game against the Houston Texans.
“Talking to Jalen today, basically it’s a day-to-day type thing,” Marrone said today, not giving any more details about the status of the Jags’ superstar.
Recently several teams expressed their interest in trading for the Pro-Bowler, among them Seahawks, Raiders, Chiefs and the Eagles, who are per several sources the most aggressive. Some media even reported that there were first-round picks involved in their package for Ramsey. It is also said that Shad Khan, the owner of the Jaguars, personally demanded for the cornerback to stay in Jacksonville, and declined all the offers.
The Jaguars are traveling to Charlotte and after that playing against the New Orleans Saints at home on October 13.
