Jalen Ramsey explained earlier today that he requested a trade from the Jaguars because of disrespect. The player claimed that one pretty disturbing argument between him and one of the franchise officials forced him to change the view on his future in Jacksonville, finally.
After Antonio Brown’s saga, the next best thing in the NFL was the recent plot between Ramsey and the Jags. It appears that the player isn’t willing to be quiet anymore and that he wants everybody to hear his side of the story. First and foremost, the cornerback stated that his action hadn’t been made in a hot-headed condition. According to his words, it is something which was in option for a long time.
“Requesting the trade was something that’s been building over a little bit of time,” Ramsey said.
There are several reasons for this besides disrespect. One of them is the new contract. Ramsey is in the fourth year of his rookie contract, and the team has an option for the fifth one. He was eager to hear some offer from the other side, but it didn’t show up.
Also, one of the best defensive players in the league is frustrated with some of the tactics his coaches are using. We already heard him criticizing the calls, sometimes even publicly. He recently had an altercation with head coach Dough Marone in Houston, when Jags lost 13-12. Ramsey was furious because his HC didn’t challenge a completion of Texans’ DeAndre Hopkins.
The 25-year old mentioned the heated conversation with a high-positioned person from the Jaguars’ management. He didn’t want to reveal his name, but underlined, that it was the last straw, the one who showed him a way out from Florida.
“Some disrespectful things were said on their end that made me definitely walk out and call my agent,” said Ramsey. “As soon as I walked out, and I told him, I said, ‘It’s time; my time is up here in Jacksonville.”
He didn’t change his mind ever since and is still sticking with that decision. There was no rush when making the decision or any emotions involved.
“I was truly at peace. I wasn’t in a mindset of making a decision while I was angry; I was completely calm. I still stand by my decision to ask for a trade.”
One of those reasons for Ramsey’s trade request is also huger for wins. He, as well as most of the fans, expected that after 2017 and the AFC Championship Game, the team becomes one of the stronger teams in the league. From 10-6 in that campaign, they fell down to 5-11 without the playoffs. Now, the way the franchise worked in the offseason isn’t guaranteeing some big of a success.
Several sources are claiming that few contenders are ready to make a move just to get this guy. The first in the line is Kansas City, after comes Baltimore, Oakland, and Seattle. Wherever he goes, the impact on that team will be spotted immediately.
What the player wanted to stress out is for everybody to know that he doesn’t want to leave because of his teammate or the city. It is because of the front office.
“I love the city here, I love my teammates, but it’s more so with the front office and the organization.”
Ramsey is a two-time Pro Bowl and First-team All-Pro. He started all 48 matches for the Jags over the recent three years and had 169 tackles and 9 interceptions. The no.5 pick from the 2016 draft was really good.
