For the 15th time in a row, the Cleveland Browns have lost the season opener. This time, it were the Tennessee Titans who defeated the franchise form Ohio. The visitors from Nashville destroyed the Browns with 43-13, and put them back on the ground, silencing all those who believed in Cleveland’s quick rise after this offseason.
The late fury, seen in the fourth quarter when Titans scored three touchdowns, not allowing a single point, forced the frustrated fans to start leaving their seats at the First Energy Stadium. After the opening 15 minutes, the majority of the spectators were pleased, because Browns had a 6-3 lead. However, following the halftime break, the situation started to fall apart.
Baker Mayfield was intercepted three times, while having just one touchdown, and the Titans secondary really did an excellent job this Sunday. The No.1 pick from the 2018 draft was very critical after the match, stating that his team didn’t play well at all.
“Any time you get something going, you shoot yourself in the foot,” Mayfield told at the post-game press conference. “Not being able to build on positive plays.”
The sophomore added that he and the entire team aren’t affected by all the negative comments that appeared on the social networks following the defeat. He claims that the team is above that.
“Everybody is going to throw some trash, and that is good,” Mayfield told the reporters. “I know what type of men we got in this locker room, and quite frankly I don’t give a damn what happens on the outside.”
Mayfield threw for 285 yards, 25 for 38 and one TD. He was also sacked in the end zone, by Cameron Wake, who brought two points to the guests.
Oddel Beckham Jr. had 7 receptions for 71 yards, while Jarvis Landry had 4 for 67 and both of them weren’t noticeable on the field.
Opposite to him, Marcus Mariota threw three touchdown passes without an interception. Titans’ QB was 14 of 24 for 248 yards and was instrumental. But he also had a fired-up Derrick Henry who scored twice, one by carrying the ball into the end zone, and on the second occasion by finishing a 75-yard pass from Mariota.
The late knockout in the fourth period was delivered by TE Delanie Walker who also posted two TDs. Walker had 5 receptions for 55 yards, while AJ Brown had 3 for 100 but without a TD. Malcolm Butler put an end on Browns’ demolition with a 38-yard return after picking up Mayfield’s pass.
Cleveland had 18 penalties for 182 yards in this contest, which along with three turnovers, is the most significant reason for their loss. The home team players were nervous and without concentration. As soon as Titans took over the wheel, Browns’ frustration emerged to the surface.

In the meantime, the left tackle Greg Robinson got ejected, while his replacement Kendall Lamm suffered a knee injury.
However, the payers are determined to erase all the mistakes already next week.
“I know how are we going to react, I know what are going to do, how we’re going to bounce back and we got a Monday Night game coming up,” said Mayfield
They will be facing the New York Jets on Monday Night Football, which will be the first Monday primetime game this year. Jets lost against the Buffalo Bills 17-16, even though they had a 16-point advantage. They too aren’t expecting that clash in the best possible mood.
The Titans are playing against the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday. They lost both games last season, but the situation is much different now, as Colts don’t have Andrew Luck anymore.
