LAFC smashed Vancouver Whitecaps last night with 6-1, showing everyone that currently, this team has no match in the MLS. A massive win was an act of revenge for a loss Impact inflicted them back in April. It was the first defeat of the LA-based team in the championship.
We could say that Vela and the boys fully redeemed for that one.
They sent a strong message to all of their rivals and continued to harass the defenses around the league. Six hits against Vancouver is the record of this franchise, and in total 11 goals over the last four days are proof that Bob Bradley’s guys are not slowing down.
Carlos Vela in particular. The Mexican netted twice last night and notched another assist to his account. During the press conference, the frontrunner for the MVP award stated that his team plays well, but that all of the guys in the locker room want to be even better.
“Well, I think we are in a good moment,” Vela said after the match. “We only lost two games in 19, a good record, I think… But the important thing for us is we want more.”
The game at Banc of California Stadium started pretty surprisingly for the hosts and their fans. In fact, it was an early shock which came after just five minutes of play. Yordy Reina used a sloppy reaction of LAFC’s defense to score and stun all the present at the stadium.
However, that was the only notable thing the guests did in this match, They resisted throughout the majority of the first half, but eventually cracked under LAFC’s enormous pressure in the late part of that sequence.
Andy Rose’s own goal in the 35th minute marked the start of the Whitecaps’ catastrophe. Six minutes later, Adama Diomande brought the lead to the hosts. It was a huge swing for the hosts, who used it in the best possible way, and one minute into the second half, Mark-Anthony Kaye raised to 3-1.
Bob Bradley was very happy not only with the win but also with the way his team responded to early adversity.
“Yeah, misunderstanding early, but the response was awesome,” LAFC coach stated. “We kept playing football.”
After Kaye’s hit, Carlos Vela had his own show, with two goals, increasing his advantage on the top goalscoring list. He now has 19 goals, six more than Galaxy’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and nine more than Josef Martinez, Wayne Rooney and his teammate Deigo Rossi.
Also, his assist to Diomande was the 12th of the season, two more than Maximiliano Moralez from the New York City.
The above-mentioned Rossi closed the night in the 72nd minute, setting the finals score, 6-1 for the hosts.
Vancouver’s players were devastated and a bit frustrated at themselves after the match. Andy Rose, whose own goal finally broke Whitecaps’ defense was very harsh.
“We come off embarrassed and disappointed in that second-half performance,” said Rose. “Everything we’ve pride ourselves on this season and done so well with our principals of play escaped us in that second half.”
Vancouver is 11th in the West with 20 points in 20 matches, and with pretty slim chances of reaching the 7th spot which leads to the playoff. All the teams in front of them have a fewer number of matches, some of them like Timbers even four.
Meanwhile, LAFC is firmly holding the top spot in the same conference, with 43 points, nine more than Galaxy.
They are heading for Houston in the next MLS match, to face the Dynamo. Meanwhile, Vancouver hosts SKC.
