There were no miracles last night in Los Angeles. Only Kevin Durant. The two-time NBA finals MVP scored 50 points, and led his Warriors into the Western Conference semifinals. Golden State routinely defeated the Los Angeles Clippers with 129-110, and closed this series in six matches.
One of the reporters asked Partick Beverly and Lou Williams after the game was there any other way to slow down Durant, especially in the first half when he poured 38 points.
“What you think?” replied Beverly. “He’s Kevin Durant.”
And then Lou Williams stepped in and explained how that looked form Clippers’ players perspective.
“We tried everything…Sometimes you come across special people, and it doesn’t matter what you sent to them. It’s no scheme, no defense, no nothing you can do with special people. He’s one of them.”

The Clippers’ press conference was relaxed and fun to attend to as they understood that there was no chance for them to win the tonight’s match, they simply didn’t have any solution on how to stop Durant. Therefore, there were no regrets.
Even coach Steve Kerr stated that KD’s performance was one of the best he witnessed in his professional career as a player and as a coach.
“It was one of the great performances I’ve seen in my life,” Kerr stated. “And I’ve seen some good ones, been around some decent players.”
Durant dropped 50 points, was shooting 15 of 26 from the field, hit 6 threes, and missed only one of his 15 free throws. He also added 6 boards and 5 assists.
Those 38 points in the first half are tied for the second-best in playoff history, with Charles Barkley’s performance against the Warriors back in 1994 when Sir Charles got the MVP award.
Warriors’ forward was setting the pace during the first two periods, especially in the second one when guests created the lead. In that sequence, GSW outscored the Clippers 37-22, and their lead at the halftime was 72-53.
“I felt great,” said Durant at the press conference. “I could have made a couple more shots.”
After losing Game 5 in which he scored 45 points, he responded with even more energy and resilience, which resulted in one memorable performance.
KD is averaging 35 points per game in the playoffs so far, with a fantastic 56.7% from the field. His three-point percentage is 40%, and is sensational from the free throw line with 94.9%
Despite the massive pressure he sustained against the Clippers and the fact that one of the best defenders in the league (if not the best) was guarding him throughout the series, and was provoking him all the time, Durant posted unreal numbers.
When a reporter asked him during the court interview after Game 6 how he achieves that, what keeps him going, Durant didn’t have the specific answer.
“I’m just out there playing, I don’t really know. I was just so lost in the game; I’m not really even thinking about nothing else, but win the possession.”
The Clippers brought the best out of Durant and the whole Warriors team, which is a good thing because they are ahead of the biggest challenge of the season – the series against the Houston Rockets.
Mike D’Antoni’s crew is 3-1 against the Warriors during the regular part of the season, and that one win of the GSW came after a huge battle at Toyota Center, 104-106.
Even without James Harden, the Rockets managed to defeat the champs, and after a while, many experts began whispering that there is a team which could have the answers on how to beat the Warriors in their own game.
Then again, all those games were during the regular part of the season, and the situation is much different now. The champions entered the full-speed mode recently, and are coming into this matchup fired-up to show that they still run the show here.
Game 1 of this epic series is scheduled for this Sunday at the Oracle Arena. 1 p.m local time.
