As the Super Bowl approaches, the tension is getting higher and higher in both teams. The latest developments are not going to relax the atmosphere that is for sure.
Nickell Robey-Coleman, Rams’ cornerback who got in the focus of media attention after the controversial decision of the referees in the NFC Championship game, called out Tom Brady.
The 27-year old was speaking about Brady’s age, and told that Pats’ quarterback is not as good as he used to be before. Robey-Coleman has a theory that one of the best players in the history of the game, performs worse than in the previous campaigns because he is too old.
In an interview for the Bleacher Report, Rams’ member was pretty direct, and a little bit disrespectful according to many fans.
“Age has definitely taken a toll. For him to still be doing it, that’s a great compliment for him. But I think that he’s definitely not the same quarterback he was,” he said.

Robey-Coleman seemed to scan Brady’s game, and he was quite confident in his words.
“Movement. Speed. Velocity. Arm strength. He still can sling it, but he’s not slinging it as much. Whatever he was doing — because of his age and all that — he’s not doing as much of that anymore. ”
If you wonder why this guy who still didn’t win anything in his professional career, holds this much grudge against the five-time Super Bowl champion there is a logical answer.
Robey-Coleman’s first team in the NFL were the Buffalo Bills, and we all know how these two sides love each other. The player mentioned that during this interview, proudly admitting that he is still a Bills fan and that he hates New England,
“I’ve got Buffalo blood running through my veins, so you know I hate these guys. I naturally hate them. I never liked New England.”
These are pretty strong and bold statements for a person whose resume is not even near Brady’s. Still, mind games are always present in these situations.
Rams’ cornerback is currently one of the most disliked persons in the American Football, because of his helmet-to-helmet tackle on Temmylee Lewis which happened two Sundays ago in New Orleans. The officials haven’t called for a penalty, and that eventually pushed the Rams to the Super Bowl.

It was one of the biggest postseason mistakes in the last decade, no doubt about it.
His decision to call out Patriots’ leader is highly questionable. We witnessed that in recent times Brady has a lot of motive to prove that he is the best QB in the league. A lot of his speeches and interviews were spiced up with him mentioning that everybody doubts his abilities and that his and New England’s game is in decline etc.
We saw that during the game against Kansas City when Julian Edelman started yelling ironically to Brady that he is too old, referring to critics similar like Robey-Coleman’s. Not to mention the interviews after the elimination of the LA Chargers.
Two more players also added some trash talking. Patrick Chung, Patriots’ safety made a mess at the Super Bowl sendoff at Gillette Stadium, when he said that his team is going to kick Rams’ buts in Atlanta.
An instant respond came from the opposite part of the country, from Brandin Cooks who played with Chung last season in New England. He directly called out his former teammate insisting to “get things straight.”
All in all, the only one in this story who didn’t make any mind games or trash talks is Tom Brady. It may be that his age is limiting him in certain aspects of the game, but what is sure is that the experience he possesses is a huge advantage over all other players on the field.
Who will get out from this verbal war as a winner will be known on Sunday. Until then, we can expect more provocations from both sides.
