Chelsea has a perfect opportunity to post its first Premiership win as Luton comes to Stamford Bridge. The Hatters are the newcomers to the league, without too much experience or quality. Luton is by far the biggest relegation contender and, for many, a sure passenger to the Championship. Meanwhile, Chelsea didn’t start the season as planned, and the most recent event against West Ham was another frustrating experience for Mauricio Pochettino’s crew. Three points are a must here, and anything other than that would be a big sensation and would create a massive problem for the Blues.
Preview
Chelsea (-400) played 1-1 in the opener against Liverpool and then went to the London Stadium to lose against West Ham, 3-1. After an early goal, with only seven minutes passing by, the Blues have managed to respond and impose their own tempo of the game.
Carney Chukwuemeka netted to level the score just before the 29th minute, and in those moments, there was only one team on the field – Chelsea. The key moment of the game was when Enzo Fernandez missed a penalty at the finish of the opening sequence. From that point on, the Blues lost control of the situation.
They had a player more for the last 25 minutes, but not only did they fail to score, they allowed a goal in the last minutes. The defense isn’t at a good level, and the latest signing Moises Caicedo was the one who was responsible for that penalty.
Luton (+850) skipped the second round because their Kenilworth Road is under construction works, all in order to meet very harsh EPL rules. The Hatters’ ground is one of the smallest and oldest in the top tiers, and it simply isn’t qualifying for Premiership events.
The newcomers opened their season in Brighton, where they faced the Seagulls, who weren’t too kind towards the guests. Roberto de Zerbi’s crew won 4-1, dominating all aspects of the play. Luton was helpless, but when looking at the overall picture, that’s understandable.
There is a long way ahead of Rob Edward’s boys, who will need to learn and improve in order to become competitive. And that’s not going to happen overnight.
Latest News
Chukwuemeka won’t be eligible for this event. Chelsea has plenty of injured players, Reece James, Trevor Chalobah, Christopher Nkunku, Wesley Fofana, Armando Broja, and Benoit Badiashile.
Luton is without Dan Potts, Jordan Clark, Gabriel Osho and Reece Burke.
Head to Head Games
Chelsea and Luton met in consecutive years in the FA Cup. In 2021, we saw the Blues triumphing at home, while one year later, they visited Luton and won 2-3.
Predictions
As said, this is a perfect chance for the Blues to win, and to boost the morale. Their attack is very potent, and all of Chelsea’s forwards are better than their guards from Luton. Our pick for this event is for Chelsea to win and cover a 1.5-goal spread, currently priced at -170, which seems to be a great bargain at the time. Chelsea is on another level compared to Luton, particularly in the offensive part, and that’s going to be a difference-maker here.
Pick: Chelsea -1.5 -170
