The bout between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz is one of the most expected sporting events this summer. The two guys have decided to fight in one boxing match, and earn quite a lot of money. On one side, we have Paul, a YouTuber and an influencer, who created one of the most profitable businesses in today’s sports world – promotion and participation in exhibition boxing events. On the other side is Nate Diaz, arguably one of the top ten MMA fighters ever. He left his mark in and outside octagon, and is one of the fan favorites.
Preview
Jake Paul (-390) has six wins and one defeat in his boxing career. He entered this discipline purely for fun and money, being an amateur, but as time went by, became a solid fighter, who even has the potential to turn out pro one day. His steady improvement was confirmed with victories over several big-time names in combat sports.
Paul was better than Ben Askren, for example, knocking him out in the first round. He also defeated Tyron Woodley, on two occasions. Paul was better than the former UFC welterweight champion once via split decision and the second time after a KO. He also defeated Anderson Silva.
The only loss the American has is against Tommy Fury, which was in the most recent bout, and that came after a split decision. His cardio looked solid in that contest, and Paul really went back and forth with a guy who is a pro. His hooks are dangerous, because Paul generates a solid power in his punches.
Nate Diaz (+300) had 21 wins and 13 defeats in the MMA. But if it weren’t for his stubbornness and pause in the moments when he was at his peak, this record would be much better.
Diaz is a jiu-jitsu guy who takes his battles to the mat whenever possible. It’s no wonder that 12 of his 21 wins came after submission, and that’s why many believe he isn’t a good boxer, which isn’t true. He would often hurt his rivals with bombs from a distance before sending them to the ground and submitting.
He had some of the most recognizable fights in the UFC, like the one against Conor McGregor when he “shook the world,” or when he recently nearly KOd Leon Edvards.
Prediction
Paul will have a weight advantage in this battle. Even though it is settled at 185 pounds, Paul’s normal weight is near this limit or above, while Diaz used to be a lightweight in certain moments of his career. Even if he gains mass and adds a few pounds, we aren’t sure about his cardio and his speed, which was supposed to be one of the advantages for the Stockton native. The odds on Paul’s win are more or less realistic, because the 26-year-old is a pure boxer and doesn’t have to adapt to anything new, while on the other side, Diaz appears in the boxing ring for the first time, and that’s going to be a completely different experience for him.
Pick: Jake Paul wins -390
