Klay Thompson On His Game Winner :”I Don’t Care How Ugly It Is”

November 25, 2018 By Nikola Velickovic Leave a Comment

The Golden State Warriors won in a thrilling match against the Sacramento Kings last night, with Klay Thompson correcting his layup miss for 117-116.

Once again Sacramento proved to be a very tough team to beat, despite all the youth on their roster.

Though the Kings had a chance to win in the end, but both Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III missed game-winning shots.

“That was a very good basketball game to watch, to be a part of. I thought we competed our tails off,” Kings coach Dave Joerger said.

The guy who revolutionized King’s game since the start of the season told that his team made mistakes which you can’t commit against an experienced team like Golden State, especially when they have two players on fire as the Warriors had tonight.

“Those two were fantastic.” Joerger said obviously meaning about Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.

KD dropped 44 points, a season-high for the two-time NBA Finals MVP. But he also added 13 rebounds, controlling the Kings offensive rebound, and 7 assists, compensating the absence of all-around Draymond Green.

After the game, Klay Thompson was praising his teammate.

Still, one of the best shooters in this game had quite a night of his own. Klay scored 31, shooting 13-of-26 from the field, hitting 5 threes while stretching Kings defense, and eventually the most important basket of the game. During the first quarter, Thompson jumped over Jason Richardson on the NBA all-time 3-point list. He moved up to No.21 after making his 1,609th downtown shot.

When asked about his last points, did he got fouled while trying to make a layup for the first time, Thompson said that it doesn’t matter how he made the basket. What is important is the win, regardless of the style.

“I don’t know if I got fouled, but who cares I got the putback,” Thompson said. “You’ll take a game-winner any way you can get it I don’t care how ugly it is.”

The Kings had a 10-point lead near the end of the second quarter, and even had one in the last period, but the more experienced rival managed to come on top of them. The boys from the capital of California played very well, not allowing for the champions to get into their usual rhythm.

“Every game I fell it’s getting better and better, be able to come out and compete and have fun with the team, it’s always good to have that kind of chemistry with the teammates,” said Marvin Bagley III, who finished the game with a strong double-double 20 points and 17 rebounds, 7 of them offensive.

“We just came out, played hard; we kept the pace up, we made a couple of bad plays, it is a learning process for us… Obviously we just came up short tonight.”

Buddy Hield had a solid shooting night making 12 of his 21 shots, for 28 points, contributing with 7 rebounds.

Now, what was a huge problem for the guests was rebounding. At some points, they just couldn’t control their paint, and prevent Warriors from getting second-chance points. After all, they lost the game from a similar situation.

Interesting thing is that the Kings had six players with double-digit points, while on the other side the home team had only three. Besides Durant and Thompson, Damian Jones performed excellently at the centre, scoring 13 points, shooting 5-of-6, and adding 6 rebounds in 21 minutes on the floor.

The Warriors won two in a row now, after losing 4 straight, for the first time under coach Steve Kerr. They will now have to play five consecutive road matches, all of them against the teams from the East, Raptors, Pistons, Hawks, Cavaliers and Bucks. Furthermore, if you look closely, most of these teams are occupying top spots in their conference. It is going to be a challenging 11 days for the champs.

Kings have three games at home. First, they face Utah, for the second time in five days, then play against the Clippers, and finally host Indiana.
