UEFA Champions League Group C – Preview and Prediction

The Death Grop in this year’s UEFA Champions League edition is Group C, with Barcelona, Inter, Bayern Munich and Viktoria Plzen. We have three big teams and one intruder, who will have a hard time against the continental giants.

Barcelona

Blaugrana had turbulent two years, suffering all sorts of blows on and off the field. It seems that the five-time UCL champions regrouped a little bit, but that is still far away from what they used to be in the past. The big name and the reputation are still attracting top players, and we can say that Xavi has quite the roster at his disposal.

Still, Barcelona lacks chemistry, and that is something that will need time to appear. What we notice here is the disbalance between attack and the defense, and even though there are some world-class players in the back line, the offense looks much better.

Bayern Munich

Lewandowski left, Sadio Mane landed, and Bayern looks even better than before. The fact that they don’t have a target man anymore, opened a chance for Bayern’s forwards to show their skills and offensive potential. Also, Julian Nagelsmann implemented a few tactical novelties, and Bayern really looks very fluid and quick.

The one who should profit the most from this is Jamal Musiala, a 19-year-old attacking midfielder who is already a regular member of the starting lineup. He and Alphonso Davies are the future of this crew.

Inter Milan

Nerazzuri are without a trophy for two years, and that set off the alarm at Meazza at the end of the last year. The management decided to bring back Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea and keep pretty much all the important players which wasn’t the case in the past. A few veterans like Vidal and Sanchez departed, but they have solid replacements.

Simone Inzaghi’s primary concern should be Lukaku’s fitness because the Belgian striker lacks endurance and stamina. If he manages to take care of that, Inter will be very competitive. Overall, the team is well-balanced, with solid players and solid depth in each position.

Viktoria Plzen

Now, according to the specialized websites, Viktoria’s team value is around $25 million. On the other side, an average player of any of their three rivals has at least the same worth. That could tell you about the difference between the Czech champions and all the other clubs in this group.

The most valuable player of this unit is the goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek, who will have a lot of work during these six games.

Prediction

We think that Bayern has the strongest team in the group and that the German powerhouse would win the top spot. Barcelona should be right behind because the Spaniards seem better than Inter. Nerazzurri showed more flaws, and in our modest opinion, Blaugrana has better chances to finish second and proceed to the knockout stage. Viktoria’s fate isn’t bright at all, as we believe that they won’t win a single point. It would really be a sensation for the Czech crew to end the group stage with more than 0 in their points column.
