LA Galaxy seeks a win over the San Jose Earthquakes this Wednesday night. Galaxy isn’t posting good results over the last few weeks, and they need three points to remain safe in the playoff zone of the Western Conference. San Jose is hammered to the bottom of the conference with 18 points in 19 games, but looking promising in the past two events. They still have some chances of reaching the playoff zone, but it would take them to win in the series, and this is the last moment for them to start that.
Preview
LA Galaxy (-166) have just one win in the past five games, including the loss to the Sacramento Republic in the US Open Cup, 1-2, which was a first-class sensation. Galaxy would eliminate LAFC earlier but then fail to Republic, which nobody could see.
The most recent game they played saw them losing to the LAFC in the MLS, 3-2, in one highly entertaining event that saw five goals. Though, the hosts were always ahead, and they didn’t have too much trouble against the Galaxy.
The efficiency of their games is high, with seven of the past eight ending with three or more goals. Also, only two throughout that stretch didn’t see both teams scoring, and it is the same at home, believe it or not.
After having a terrible start, San Jose Earthquakes (+425) started to recover a little bit. They lost only once in the past four games, winning one game, and drawing two. After not managing to score in 180 minutes, the Quakes netted twice in each of the previous two events.
The defense has been a massive problem for the Quakes, and they simply can’t find any consistency in the back line. That is especially visible on the road, where they have allowed at least two goals in each outing since March this season.
Only one defense is worst than the Quakes’ on the road, and that is SKC’s. San Jose allowed 20 goals in nine road trips, and managed to win miserable three points, not triumphing in a single event. Along with the terrible Colorado Rapids, they are the only team in the West without success on the road.
Latest News
Jorge Villafana is out for the hosts due to injury. Chase Gasper is questionable.
On the other side, the young Francisco Calvo is with the national selection, and is unavailable for the Quakes, while Gilbert Fuentes and Siad Haji remain questionable.
Head to Head Games
The most recent meeting was in August 2021, and the Quakes triumphed in LA 1-2. These two teams met two months prior to that one, only in San Jose, and the guests won that one as well, 1-3.
Prediction
Given the circumstances and an imperative they have, LA Galaxy needs to win this one. They have a perfect opponent for beating the worst team in the conference, who, despite improving in the past few games, still has one of the most fragile defenses in the league, particularly on the road. That is why we will bet on the home unit, whose win is priced at -166.
Pick: LA Galaxy Wins -166
