It was a wonderful night for the Las Vegas Raiders, who managed to come back from behind and beat the Baltimore Ravens after OT. The final result of the game at the Allegiant Stadium was 33-27 for the hosts.
Fantastic Derek Carr led the way for the home team, acting as a true leader in the finish of the match. The Raiders were constantly behind the injury-shredded guests, inflicting but also, accepting blows and not being able to break the Ravens and take over the lead.
With 3:44 until the end, Darren Waller’s 10-yard TD catch leveled the score at 24-all. However, Lamar Jackson took the football down the field, setting up a solid position for the kicker, Justin Tucker, who hit the field goal from 47 yards.
The time on the clock showed 37 seconds until the end, and it was time for Derek Carr to show some magic. Two completions were enough for the Raiders to win 38 yards and give some chance to kicker Daniel Carlson. The 26-year old smashed the football from 55 yards, and it went in, meaning that the overtime would decide the winner of this matchup.
Raiders got the ball and had a perfect drive, reaching one yard from the end zone, but Carr threw an interception, and at that moment, it seemed that the hosts would lose the match.
Still, the NFL would be this popular if it weren’t for all the flips and shocks, which was just what happened on the very next drive. Jackson was sacked, fumbling the ball, later recovered by Darius Philon.
The Raiders were 27 yards away from the promised land, and on this occasion, Carr didn’t make any mistakes. He would find Zay Jones with a 31-yard pass, to close the match.
Jon Gruden stated following the match that it was one of the most intense in his career.
“I felt like I died and woke up,” Gruden said. “And died again. I was like a cat: I had multiple lives tonight. I don’t like playing like that. It was tough, but, again, we did a lot of good things to win that football game tonight.”
Carr was masterful with 435 yards, 34-for-56, having two TD passes and one interception. Meanwhile, even though he ran just 34 yards on 10 carries, Josh Jacobs took the ball into the endzone twice. Darren Waller had 105 receiving yards for one TD, Bryan Edwards 81, while Jones added that one TD catch and 46 receiving yards.
On the other side, Jackson had 235 yards, 19-for-30, with one TD pass. He was the best rusher in Baltimore with 86 yards on the ground in 12 carries. Two Ravens’ runningbacks, Tyson Williams and Latavious Murray, had a TD each. Marquise Brown had a receiving TD and 69 yards, while Sammy Watkins caught the football four times for 96 yards.
“We just didn’t close the game out when we had the opportunity to do it three or four times,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “That’s what you need to do when you have an opportunity to win, you got to win. We just didn’t do that tonight.”
Baltimore has a big challenge coming up next, as they host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, the Raiders are heading to Pittsburgh to meet the fired-up Steelers who defeated Buffalo Bills on the road.
