Roland Garros Finals: Novak Djokovic vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Preview, Odds, Prediction

Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas meet in the French Open (Roland Garros) finals. The second Grand Slam of the year will get a new champion after Novak defeated Rafael Nadal yesterday. The Serb is the favorite in this match, but knowing Tsitsipas, the odds don’t have to mean anything. He already showed that in the past on a few occasions. Of all the youngsters, Novak always had the fiercest clashes with Stefanos. We expect nothing less on Sunday afternoon.

Novak Djokovic (-320) is a massive favorite, but as said, we disagree with the difference in odds. Yes, he is much better than Tsitsipas, but the bookies seem to forget that this is the final match. Don’t get us wrong, we, too, think that Joker has better chances to win but aren’t thrilled with those numbers.

It seems that Friday’s win over Rafael Nadal 3-6 6-3 7-6(4) 6-2, left quite an impression on the public, with Novak coming back following a slow first set and delivering a memorable performance. As always, when these two guys meet, we see some unreal plays and sequences, and it was no different this time.

Djokovic overcame Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinals, 6-3 6-2 6-7(5) 7-5, with the Italian playing arguably the best tennis of his life. We noticed during this tournament that Djokovic tends to increase the tempo as the match goes by, and even though it sometimes comes back at him like a boomerang, this strategy eventually earns victories. Something like that happened against Nadal.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (+280) had a challenging road on his way to the finals. Not only did he had to go through five sets against Alexander Zverev in the semis, but his earlier rivals were also much tougher than Novak’s.

Daniil Medvedev was swept in the quarterfinals 6-3 7-6(3) 7-5. Prior to that contest, Tsitsipas eliminated Pablo Carreno Busta, who is very good when it comes to playing on clay, and John Isner, one of the best servers in the world. So he needs to be credited because of it.

The only problem here is that he spent more time on the court than Novak, which might be a problem if Djokovic imposes a high-intensity match early on.

Djokovic has five wins over Tsitsipas, while on the other side, the youngster defeated the current world No.1 on two occasions. However, Novak beat Stefanos in the previous three matches, one of them being in the semis of Roland Garros last year. The result of that match was 3-2 for the Serb 6-3 6-2 5-7 4-6 6-1.

Prediction
